In Scotland this weekend Jen Doyle ticked off two of her season’s targets with two medals at the Tour of Ayrshire, despite the doubt of even competing after a cold in the week. The event is part of the UCI Grand Fondo Series, with qualifying riders getting a place in the amateur world championships in Albi later in the year.
Jen on great form after a week in Mallorca competed tentatively in Saturday’s Chrono – a poorly surfaced and technical 11.4mile circuit, with a crosswind throughout. A well managed programme in the week meant that the cold had subsided enough to pull out a fantastic third place in the women’s 50-54 category.
Not content with just one medal for the weekend and a qualification spot for Albi, Jen had to go two better on Sunday winning her category in the Fondo event. At 65miles the Fondo proved to again be decided by the wind, with groups splitting and echeloning as the women’s race split over the climbs. After nearly 4 hours of tough racing, it would come down to a sprint finish for the line – with Jen taking the win by half a wheel!
With two targets completed and exceeded, Jen now plans to do the same in Albi later in the season, backed with Clinterval Coaching all the way.
